Local NGO Transforms Rural Schools with Solar Power Initiative

A groundbreaking solar power initiative led by a local NGO has brought electricity to 50 rural schools across Sierra Leone's provinces. The project, funded by a combination of international donors and local fundraising, has transformed the learning environment for over 15,000 students.
Before the initiative, many schools relied on kerosene lamps or had no lighting at all, severely limiting study hours. Now, students can use computers, watch educational videos, and study after dark.
The project also includes training for local technicians to maintain the solar panels, creating sustainable employment in rural communities. Plans are underway to expand the program to reach 200 more schools by 2027.
